Writing Centers Around the World
The English Writing Center at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China
The Zhejiang University English Writing Center (EWC) is affiliated with Zhejiang University, one of China’s top higher education institutions located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Unlike other EWCs, we have no peer tutors but three professor tutors regularly and a few professors just when-in-need. The language of engagement is English for English professor tutors, and both Chinese and English for Chinese professor tutors.
The University of the Western Cape Writing Centre, Bellville, South Africa
The UWC Writing Centre was the first writing centre to be established at a South African university in 1994. While English is the main medium of teaching and learning in the University including the writing centre, the centre acknowledges and welcomes every student due to the fact that the University itself is a multi-ethnic, multilingual institution.
The Hisar Writing Center, Istanbul, Turkey
The Hisar Writing Center is headquartered at Hisar School in Istanbul, Turkey, a progressive K-12 institution founded in 1996. We aim to build a community confident and fluent in the writing process, a community that sees writing as a tool for learning and developing critical thinking.
Daystar University Writing and Speech Centre, Nairobi, Kenya
The Daystar University Writing and Speech Centre (WSC) is affiliated with Daystar University, a chartered Christian University in Kenya. The university has six schools and approximately 5,000 students. English is the main language of instruction in the University although other languages like Kiswahili and French are taught.
The Haigazian University Writing Center, Beirut, Lebanon
The Haigazian University Writing Center is affiliated with Haigazian University which was established as a liberal arts institution in 1955 in Beirut, Lebanon. The university is inspired by the Armenian Evangelical heritage and operates on the United States model of higher education, using English as the language of instruction while offering courses in Arabic and Armenian. The HU Writing Center was established upon the reception of a grant from the U.S. Embassy in the fall 2018 semester.
